The founders of The Yorkville Sports Medicine Clinic spent years humbly serving professional athletes, accident patients, hospital patients, community-based patients and found that professionals athletes benefited from having something the other patients did not - a collection of healthcare professionals that worked together for one purpose, getting you better.

The Yorkville Sports Medicine Clinic is designed to allow you to experience the benefits of integrated healthcare that an athlete would receive. By allowing everyone access to this type of healthcare we aspire to help you get better faster, and stay better longer.

Dr. Thanu Jey

CLINIC DIRECTOR | BSC. HONS (KIN), D.C, CSCS, FCE, ATLAS

Dr. Thanu Jey is an experienced, talented Chiropractor in Ontario. He received his Doctor of Chiropractic in Toronto Canada at the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC). Dr. Jey has a wide range of practice experience including working with athletes, sport injuries, body fitness, motor vehicle rehabilitation, aging prevention and nutrition to name a few.

Dr. Jey has had the pleasure of working with athletes in the NBA, NHL and Olympics for their pain relief needs. Dr. Jey carries many certifications including Strength & Conditioning Specialist, Functional Capacity Evaluator, Certified Personal Trainer with the Canadian Society of Exercise Physiologists, National Coaching Certification Program, Trigenics Provider and BLS CPR Instructor with the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada. Dr. Jey is a big proponent of healthy and active living and helping patients get back to doing the things they love.

 

Dr. Giuseppe Costa

ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON, SPORTS MEDICINE | MD, FRCSC

Dr. Costa is an orthopaedic surgeon subspecialized in (1) sport/arthroscopy/upper extremity reconstruction and (2) lower extremity reconstruction. He completed two fellowships at the University of Toronto and currently practices at the Mackenzie Health Richmond Hill Hospital.

Dr. Costa treats professional / amateur athletes’ sport injuries as well as all patients with bone/joint pain.  If indicated, he uses the latest forms of musculoskeletal injections and techniques.  Dr. Costa’s clinical interests include arthroscopic surgery as well as knee, hip and shoulder replacement.

 

Dr. Sukh Chohan

CLINIC DIRECTOR | BSC. HONS (KIN), D.C, ATLAS

Dr. Chohan is our clinical expert in assessing and resolving all complex muscles and joint issues. Completing is Doctor of Chiropractic in Toronto Canada, he takes pride in helping people find answers to pain, including those conditions that patients have struggled with for longer than they should. Alongside standing Clinical Director of Yorkville Sports Med, Dr. Chohan has been published in numerous scientific journal articles, and sits as a Director on the Canadian Medical Institute, Heal 2 Go, as well as Advisor on significant health boards.

Dr. Chohan has quickly become the go-to expert for those suffering from sciatica, disc herniation and degeneration. Dr. Chohan focuses on root causes of pain, along side the current symptoms. He is currently teaching Atlas Low Back pain courses, and enjoys educating the future healthcare professionals on his therapeutic approach that is focused on results.

 

Kayo De Souza

PHYSIOTHERAPIST | MSC PT, BSC HONS

Kayo de Souza completed his Master’s degree in Physical Therapy at Western University. Prior to this he also received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology & Health Sciences from York University; graduating with Honours. 

Kayo grew up playing competitive soccer and is passionate about running, volleyball and basketball. His love for sports plus a personal history of sport-related injuries over the years inspired him to pursue a career in Physiotherapy where he is now dedicated to helping his clients return to the activities they love. 

Kayo focuses on developing personalized, client-focused treatment plans, tailored to each client’s goals and needs. He prioritizes a hands-on treatment approach, using manual therapy techniques in combination with corrective exercises and client education. Having played competitive sports and dealt with season-ending injuries in the past, Kayo understands the importance of prevention and not only becoming pain-free but addressing underlying faulty movement patterns to prevent re-injury and improve function. A life-long learner, he is interested in pursuing certifications in manual therapy and acupuncture. 

Outside the clinic Kayo enjoys staying active playing recreational soccer and volleyball, going for runs in his neighborhood and swimming.

 

Dr. Alex Tremblett

CHIROPRACTOR | DC, B.Hk, CSEP CPT 


Dr. Tremblett received her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. Prior to her doctorate degree, she obtained a Bachelor of Human Kinetics (Honours), Movement Science Degree from the University of Windsor, Ontario. 

Dr. Tremblett has extensive competency in diversified techniques, soft tissue release, rehabilitation exercise prescription, nutrition, and patient education, which allows her to tailor individualized treatment plans to her patients.

As a Practitioner, Dr. Tremblett emphasizes the importance of acting as a facilitator to provide individuals with the tools and knowledge to reach their specific needs, whether it be the rehabilitation of an injury, optimizing patient movement and function, symptom management, or injury prevention. Dr. Tremblett enjoys working with all ages of the population. While using an evidence-based approach to therapy, she is able to treat musculoskeletal conditions affecting the muscles, bones and joints of the body. Whether patients have temporary or lifelong limitations, she is able to support her patients in reducing any restrictions in functioning they may be experiencing. 

 

Ana Carolina Di Giorgio

PHYSIOTHERAPIST | MSC PT, BSC HONS


Ana is a registered physiotherapist who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy and a master’s degree in musculoskeletal care. Ana's main focus is on providing care for joint injuries, sports, geriatric, pediatric, and post-surgery.

She has six years of experience treating patients and delivering patient-centered care. She believes that the treatment should be based on empathy and respect. As a good listener, she loves to hear about different stories and help people find the best outcome for their injuries. Ana is not satisfied until her patients are happy with their recovery.

Ana believes that physiotherapy is one of the most rewarding professions, and she would be delighted to help in your rehabilitation with compassion and love.

Ana also had some injuries herself and learned so much from her recovery. She believes the patient should be actively involved in the plan of care, and their autonomy will always be respected under her treatment. Ana likes to make a difference in someone’s life; the feeling of bringing hope to someone’s life is surreal.

She believes that education, patience, compliance, and determination are crucial to achieving better results under her supervision. Prevention will always play an important role in her treatments.

Garima Singh

PHYSIOTHERAPIST | MSC PT, BSC HONS


Garima graduated with a bachelor’s in Physiotherapy in 2015. Garima has developed her clinical experience in a variety of settings, including private orthopedic and sports rehab clinics, and acute hospital care. Garima is experienced in treating patients in postoperative care, burn units and in gynecology department. 

She is skilled in treating chronic and acute pain and exercise and rehab protocols, myofascial, and active release techniques. She has a special interest in sports rehabilitation and prehab for injury prevention, in addition to treating people who suffer from other common work-related injuries. She is also looking forward to taking more courses such as acupuncture and dry needling and advanced pelvic health programs. 

She believes in the importance of a patient-centered approach to care, emphasizing hands-on intervention, individualized exercise prescription, and ongoing education to best help her patients reach their full potential. Garima practices in a client-centered manner ensuring confidentiality, privacy, and empathy. She treats each patient as an individual with their own specific goals. Her personal interests include running, traveling, and hiking.

Laura Lopez Hernandez

PHYSIOTHERAPIST | MSC PT, BSC

Laura completed her Masters in Physiotherapy at Queen' s University after pursuing an Honours Bachelors of Science at the University of Toronto. As a physiotherapist, Laura' s passion and enthusiasm to rehabilitate clients to their sport and play of preference come from her background playing baseball, previous participation in distance running, kickboxing, yoga and crossfit. She has worked with cheerleaders, gymnasts, soccer players, rowing and fencing athletes in the past. Laura also practices as a Registered Physiotherapist at Toronto General where she is actively involved with research. In the past she has published in a top journal "Physical Therapy" and she is actively working on her next projects. She welcomes clients of different age groups and conditions as she has previous experience in the rehabilitation of sports and overuse injuries, general neck and low back pain, post-surgical conditions. Laura holds a special interest in shoulder and TMJ rehabilitation.

 

Thaina Tamtakiridis

PODIATRIST, FOOT & ANKLE SPECIALIST | MPodMed, Chiropodist BASc., HBSc., D.Ch.

Thaina graduated in 2011 from the University of Toronto earning an Honours Bachelor of Science degree. Thaina moved to Melbourne Australia and completed a Bachelor of Applied Science and Masters of Podiatric Practice in 2018. To date, she is a registered Podiatrist in Australia, and Manitoba, and a registered member with the College of Chiropodist of Ontario holding a full scope license in good standing. 

Over the past few years, Thaina has worked and gained vital experience in public, private and multidisciplinary healthcare settings which facilitated exposure to individuals of all ages with diverse conditions.  During her work in Manitoba, she performed corticosteroid injection therapy under guidance of Diagnostic Ultrasound Imaging to successfully treat a variety musculoskeletal conditions.  

Thaina takes pride in her personal and professional career growth and commits time to complete continuing education courses to enhance her clinical reasoning skills and knowledge to provide her patients with highest level of evidence-based solutions.  

Thaina is dedicated to her patients and strives to provide complete care for lower limb and foot care health issues. 

 

TS Simmons

CLINICAL PSYCH CONSULTANT | RPT, CBT

TS Simmons is a clinician with more than 20 years of experience within the clinical and corporate sector. He has had extensive training and experience in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, Medical CBT, and other therapeutic modalities. He also has extensive training and experience in the treatment of clinical issues, forensic interventions, substance abuse disorders, and personal, corporate and executive coaching.

 

Sang-Mee Lee

REGISTERED ACUPUNCTURIST | R. Ac

Sang-Mee is an 17 year experienced Acupuncturist, who completed the 5-Year Doctor of TCM program at the Central College of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Vancouver in 2005. She is also a registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac.) with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario, bringing her extensive knowledge and expertise to her practice.

Using a combination of acupuncture and acupressure, she can effectively eliminate stagnation in your body, adjust your energy flow, balance your Yin & Yang, and improve your general health. Her treatments are designed to address a wide variety of conditions, and she works diligently to create a personalized plan that fits each patient's unique needs.

 

Dr. Asli Ozbek Figueroa Orta

NATUROPATHIC DOCTOR | ND

Dr. Asli Ozbek Figueroa Orta is a licensed and registered Naturopathic Doctor (ND) in Toronto, Ontario. She is also registered as an MD and ophthalmologist in Turkey. She graduated from Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine in 2001 and got her license as an MD. Soon after, she started residency training in ophthalmology at Prof.Dr.N. Resat Belger Beyoglu Ophthalmology Education and Research Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey. Upon successfully completing the residency program and getting licensed as a specialist physician in ophthalmology, she worked for many years in various multidisciplinary hospitals until she moved to Canada for Naturopathic Medicine Education. She graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM), IMG (international medical graduate) specific education program in 2019. Since 2020, she is working as a licensed and registered naturopathic doctor (ND) in Toronto, Ontario.

With both a Medical Doctorate and a Naturopathic Doctorate, Dr. Orta integrates her conventional, traditional, and naturopathic medicine knowledge and experience. She creates personalized treatment plans and recommendations for each individual needs. To create a more personalized approach, she puts into consideration the genetic makeup of her clients when available. Lifestyle recommendations, diet, and nutrition, body-mind techniques, botanicals, nutraceuticals, TCM, and acupuncture are some examples of treatment methods she mainly uses in her practice.

 

Derek Lin

REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPIST | RMT

Derek believes in the benefit of touch. Healthy touch calms our heart rates and reduce anxiety. A lack of touch can make us feeling depressed or ill. One of the power forms of touch is massage, which applies knowledge, experience, care, understanding and creativity. Our bodies need a regular tune up for better performance and function. A massage should be personalized carefully crafted to respond to different body type and conditions, that is the best fit for you.

Derek was a graphic and landscape designer, finally found his calling being a massage therapist in 2015 in Toronto. Not only he has a strong understanding of musculoskeletal anatomy, and naturally developed an unique style of deep tissue and relaxing massage with a bit of artistic touch. His goal is to help you know your body best, reduce your muscle tension, improve your range of motion; and encourage you keep up an active lifestyle to promote a functional balance.

Derek enjoys swimming which is a great exercise and hydrotherapy for his low back tension from his pervious careers by prolong sitting in front of computer and heavy lifting in gardens.

Cecilia Fung

REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPIST | BA, RMT, CMTO

Cecilia graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from York University  prior to obtaining a Massage  Therapy Diploma from the Royal Canadian College of Massage Therapy (RCC). She is a registered member of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) and the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA).  She finds joy and satisfaction in having a career that allows her to assist others in relieving pain and achieving their treatment goals.  Cecilia conducts detailed assessments and is a firm believer in working together with her clients to develop goals that are meaningful to them. She enjoys successfully treating different clients, from athletes to weekend warriors, from trauma patients post motor vehicle accident to patients with repetitive strain injuries. She particularly enjoys doing deep tissue massage, trigger points, and stretches but also has been very effective a utilizing light touch techniques, effleurage and petrissage.  When indicated, clients usually find massage a nice complimentary treatment to physiotherapy.

 

Cheyanne Salcedo

REGISTERED MASSAGE THERAPIST | RMT

Cheyanne is a passionate massage therapist who graduated from the Massage Therapy program at Centennial College in 2022. Growing up, she always knew she wanted to help others. She has a strong interest in learning more about the human body and how it functions which ultimately led her to pursue a career in massage therapy. She’s able to use different techniques and modalities to help relieve pain or discomfort. Cheyanne strives to meet the goals of her clients and to ensure they feel comfortable at all times. She is always looking to gain more knowledge and learn new skills in order to provide the most effective treatments.

 

Skyla Cantwell

PHYSIOTHERAPIST ASSISTANT | PTA, OTA

Skyla is an Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant with a completed Ontario College Diploma from Georgian College. She also completed the Pre-Health Sciences Pathway to Advanced Diplomas and Degrees program at Georgian College. Skyla has gained extensive clinical fieldwork experience in different healthcare settings, including paediatric occupational therapy, a seniors' home, and a physiotherapy and acupuncture clinic. During her placements, she ensured clients' safety and efficiently organized and performed treatments while following infection control measures.

Skyla has experience in educating clients on the importance of exercises and range of motion. She completed ambulation and transfer training safely, and efficiently applied heat packs while ensuring clients' safety. Skyla has completed various certifications and training programs, including Standard First Aid with CPR/AED Level BLS HCP, WHMIS Training, and Worker Health and Safety. Skyla is a highly skilled and dedicated Physiotherapist Assistant who is passionate about helping her clients achieve their goals and improve their overall wellness.

 

Laura Darakjian

PHYSIOTHERAPIST ASSISTANT | MSC PT, BSC Hons Kin, PTA

Laura is a physiotherapy assistant with a passion for helping others reclaim movement. She completed her Post-Graduate Diploma in Physiotherapy from Leeds Beckett University in England UK and is working towards obtaining her Canadian physiotherapy license. Prior to this, she obtained her Bachelors in Kinesiology degree and her Diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion from the University of Guelph-Humber. 

Physical activity has made up a big part of Laura’s life. She did competitive gymnastics growing up and recreationally enjoys rock climbing, hiking, swimming, yoga, pilates and cycling. Having personally experienced injury, Laura understands the unique challenges and impacts it may pose when engaging in meaningful activities, sports, and daily life. Her firsthand experience of the benefits of physiotherapy has lead her to pursue it as a career. 

Throughout her educational and professional journey Laura has gained experience working with diverse patient groups including orthopaedic, neurological, pediatric, and elderly populations. She has also worked across different healthcare settings, including acute care, community, sport oriented, and outpatient facilities. Laura has extensive experience carrying out individualized physiotherapy treatment plans ensuring client safety, and educating clients about adapting and incorporating movement to suit their lifestyle.
