Shockwave Therapy
“Work sharper with the right tools”
Shockwave therapy is a powerful modality that therapists employ to address a variety of muscle and joint.
It focuses on the rehabilitation of medium and large tendons and is primarily utilised for chronic problems (lasting more than 6 months). Tendons are the connective tissue that connects muscles to bones.
Shockwave therapy has been demonstrated to enhance the body's natural healing response and lessen pain by affecting nerve terminals.

What is Shockwave Therapy?
Shockwave therapy uses high-energy sound waves to promote healing. The therapist manually activates the generator using the body part as a target, and this sends shockwaves deep into the tissue. The applied energy is transmitted from the handpiece through a tubing system and into a stainless steel applicator tip that is placed just outside the skin's surface. The tip about the size of an eraser on a pencil contains an opening for insertion into soft tissue and produces focused shockwaves that reduce swelling, relieve pain, and stimulate healing.
Conditions Treated By Shockwave
Most of the conditions are chronic in nature, meaning lasting 6 months or more. Shockwave tends to work best for:
Plantar Fasciitis
Tennis Elbow (lateral epicondylitis)
Golfer’s Elbow (medial epicondylitis)
Jumper’s Knee (patellar tendonitis)
Calcific Tendonitis (mainly supraspinatus)
Achilles Tendinotis
Retrocalcaneal Bursitis
And many more

How Do I Get Started With Therapy?
Shockwave Therapy is currently being used by our in-house physiotherapists and chiropractors.
In order to start your therapy, you need to be thoroughly assessed by a physiotherapist and chiropractor to make sure that you would be a candidate for shockwave therapy. We also need to make sure that there are no contraindications to shockwave therapy. A contraindication would be any reason where shockwave therapy would not be indicated in your case.
More likely than not, your therapist would recommend shockwave therapy as part of your treatment plan that may also include rehabilitation exercises, soft tissue therapy, mobilizations or other forms of treatment.
